What Does Your Dream Home Look Like?
Has anyone ever asked you that? Seriously think about it for a second.. what does your dream home look like?
It’s almost like that question you hear in every interview: “where do you see yourself in 10 years?”
Everyone’s A Dreamer
Some people are traditionalists. They want to start a family and live the dream with a two story single-family home, white picket fence and a nice manicured yard.
More and more people these days have an ultra-modern sensibility. Flatscreen TVs in every room, top of the line appliances, high-end media center and gadgets galore!
Another fast-growing demographic are the eco-warriors — seeking to minimize or eliminate their carbon footprint. These folks are all about efficiency and clean technology, recycled building materials, and natural surroundings. Most of these folks would probably love to grow their own food, too.
I fancy myself a bit of all three.
I’d love to have a family, and have a great, cozy home to raise 2.5 kids and a golden retriever. But I LOVE technology and am also concerned about my impact on the environment.
The great thing is, I don’t have to choose a cookie-cutter home — and NEITHER DO YOU!
So What Are My Options?
These days, it’s not uncommon to have a home custom-built to your specifications. This way you can have a family room for the kids to play, a living room with the latest in digital audio/visual technology, a doghouse in the backyard, and a jacuzzi on the roof. 😉
Granted, this is a “Dream Home” in every sense of the word. Most of us won’t be able to realize our wildest fantasies, but that shouldn’t stop us from improving what we can!
It’s tough if you rent. But if you are a homeowner and want to upgrade your lifestyle just take it piece by piece.
Have a home addition contractor help you figure out what you really want out of your home and turn it into smaller projects.
Go Ahead, Make That Dream A Reality
In dire need of more space in the kitchen? Have an expert help you mock up a new kitchen design.
Horrified at the state of your bathroom, or just want to add a whirlpool bath to help you unwind? Consider investing in a bath remodeling.
Dying for a place to watch the game with the guys? Get your basement remodeled into a game room and entertainment center. (Don’t forget the tiki bar.)
Need some more space but can’t afford a new home? Look into getting an addition on the house you’ve got.
As the market bounces back, all of these investments can pay dividends when it does come time to pick up and move.
In short, don’t be afraid to dream! Sometimes it’s all we’ve got, and sometimes we can make it more.
Sweet Dreams!
